BRIEF BIO

Sujiao (Emma) Zhao is a research economist at the Economics and Research Department of the Bank of Portugal and an invited assistant professor at School of Economics and Management of the University of Porto. She received her Ph.D. in finance from Grenoble University with the highest distinction. Her Ph.D. thesis was funded by the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Rhône-Alpes Accueil Doc Scholarships. Before joining the Bank of Portugal, she worked at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and was welcomed by HEC Montréal as a visiting researcher.

Sujiao (Emma) Zhao is a passionate educator and researcher. Her research interest lies in corporate finance, with a focus on financial contracting and information disclosure, empirical banking, with a focus on the real effects of credit supply shocks, and financial econometrics, with a focus on big data and data visualization. Her work has been published, among others, in the Journal of Banking & Finance and in the Journal of Business Finance & Accounting.
