BRIEF BIO

Luís Guimarães is a Lecturer in Macroeconomics at Queen’s Management School, Queen’s University of Belfast (QUB), and a researcher at the Center for Economics and Finance (Cef.UP). Before joining QUB, Luís finished his PhD in Economics at the Faculty of Economics, University of Porto (FEP) in 2015 and he was an assistant professor at Universidade Portucalense Infante D. Henrique. He was also a postdoctoral researcher at FEP in 2018 and he co-founded a firm applying macroeconometric techniques to forecast commodities’ prices. At Cef.UP, he coordinates the Eco-seminars.

Luís’ research concentrates on the macroeconomic analysis of the labor market. In particular, he studies the implications of business cycles and automation on the unemployment rate, wages, labor share, and inequality. Luís has also studied the implications of economic policy in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the implications of monetary policy both in the short-run and long-run.
