BRIEF BIO

Joao Ribeiro is Assistant Professor at the School of Economics and Management in the University of Porto (FEP.UP). He holds a PhD in Accounting and Finance in the University of Manchester, and an MSc in Accounting and Finance in the University of Manchester/UMIST, as well as a degree in Management at FEP.UP. He has developed a career in research, teaching and consultancy in the area of Accounting, with a special focus on Management Accounting and Control.

He published mostly in the areas of accounting and control, and was the supervisor of several PhD theses and numerous MSc dissertations. He is a regular reviewer in international journals, and belongs to the editorial board of the journal “Qualitative Research in Accounting and Management”.

At FEP.UP and at the University of Porto he held several positions: he was pro-rector with responsibilities in the areas of strategic planning and corporate holdings, he was the director of the PhD Programme in Management, and he was the director of the Master in Management, as well as other responsibilities in scientific and administrative bodies. At Porto Business School, he coordinates the PG programme in Management Control and Strategic Execution, he was the mamber of the academic council and is currently a member of the general council of the school. He is a regular collaborator with the Portuguese Agency of Accreditation for Higher Education (A3ES) in processes for the acreditation of programmes.

Management Accounting and Control in specific contexts (e.g. networks, hospitals, higher education). Institutional theories in Management Accounting. Power and Management Accounting.
