BRIEF BIO

Elvira Silva is an Associate Professor with tenure and Habilitation at the University of Porto, Faculdade de Economia do Porto, and a Research Economist at the Center for Economics and Finance at the University of Porto (cef.up). She is the Director of the PhD program in Economics at Faculdade de Economia do Porto. She has a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the Pennsylvania State University (1996), a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from Clemson University (1991), and a Bachelor in Economics from the University of Porto (1984).

Her PhD thesis A Unified Nonparametric Approach to Dynamic Production Analysis and Efficiency Measurement received an Award for Professional Excellence, Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation, 1997, by the American Agricultural Economics Association. Her master thesis The Reliability of Soybean and Corn Option-Based Probability Assessment was awarded an Honorable Mention, Outstanding Thesis Award, 1992, by the American Agricultural Economics Association.

 

Elvira Silva was a Visiting Professor at the Department of Agricultural Economics, Wageningen Agricultural University (1997), Department of Environmental Economics and Natural Resources, Wageningen Agricultural University (1998 and 1999).

 

Elvira Silva has published on her areas of specialization in several scientific journals, namely: American Journal of Agricultural Economics, European Review of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Productivity Analysis, International Journal of Production Economics, Environmental and Resource Economics. She is also a co-author of Dynamic Efficiency and Productivity Measurement, Oxford University Press (forthcoming).
