BRIEF BIO
Álvaro Almeida is Associate Professor at Universidade do Porto, Faculdade de Economia; Professor of Economics and Health Systems at Porto Business School; Deputado à Assembleia da República (Member of the Portuguese Parliament) and Vereador da Câmara Municipal do Porto (Porto City Councilor). Previously he was President of the Health Regional Administration of the North, Portugal; President of the Economics Faculty Group at Universidade do Porto, Faculdade de Economia; Consultant for the Health Minister, Government of Portugal; President of the Healthcare Regulatory Authority, Portugal; Economist at the International Monetary Fund, Washington DC.
He holds a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Master’s and a Degree in Economics from Universidade do Porto, Faculdade de Economia. He has published in several economic and health journals, such as Health Economics, European Journal of Health Economics, Computational Economics, Health Policy, Health Care Management Science, International Journal of Health Planning and Management, and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. He was awarded the Gold Medal for Distinguished Services for the Ministry of Health.
