BRIEF BIO

Miguel Martins is pursuing a PhD in Economics at the University of Porto, with a research focus on Behavioural Macroeconomics and the intergenerational transmission of economic behaviour. He holds an MBA from IESE Business School in Barcelona (2012) and an Industrial Engineering and Management degree from the University of Porto (2005), complemented by over 20 years of experience in the private sector, including more than a decade in senior leadership roles at Amazon in London and Singapore, namely as the Head of Marketing & Prime at Amazon.sg and the Head of Prime Member Growth for Amazon in Europe.

Miguel’s current doctoral work explores how entrepreneurial tendencies are passed from parents to children and how macroeconomic shocks influence behavioural persistence across generations. He integrates empirical microdata analysis with heterogeneous agent modelling to inform evidence-based policy design.

His research interests include entrepreneurship, intergenerational mobility, behavioural economics, and the long-term effects of cultural transmission on economic growth. He is particularly focused on applying behavioural insights to macroeconomic frameworks to better understand risk preferences, labour market dynamics, and policy effectiveness.
